Term 4 Week 1

We are back!  We all had a wonderful holiday but it is great to be back and we are all excited to start learning.  It will be a very busy term because we have lots to learn before we get to year 2 or year 3.

Literacy

We have been super busy writing recounts of our holidays.  It seems we all had very busy and exciting holidays.

Sharing our holiday news

To practice our spelling words we learnt a new game called Spelling Race.  We had our words down one end of the undercover area and our whiteboards down the other.  We had to look at our word then run up to the other end and spell it correctly.  The first person to show Miss R ten spelling words spelt correctly was the winner.  It was lots of fun.

Maths

This week we learnt about ordinal numbers.  Ordinal numbers are numbers that tell you the order something is in.  Some ordinal numbers are 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 123rd, 4356th and 1400th.

Integrated

This term we are learning about Christmas around the world.  We have been talking about all the continents.  There are seven continents. They are Europe, Asia, Australia, Antarctica, North America, South America and Africa.  We have coloured a map of the world and we drew on the equator.  The earth is divided into two hemispheres, the northern and southern hemisphere.  Have a look on our publishing page to see some of our beautiful maps.

Miss R showed us some movie of her trip to Europe at Christmas time.  When she was in the northern hemisphere at Christmas time it was freezing cold and snowing.  Here in Australia at Christmas time it is boiling hot and sunny.  The two hemispheres have opposite seasons.  When it is summer here, it is winter in the northern hemisphere.

It is fun to be back at school.
